2 day hide tanning workshop- Deposit only
**This two day class is $500. 1/2 is due now, and you will be invoiced for the remainder. The balance due will be invoiced for both classes on July 1st. (Deposits are non refundable- they can be used towards future classes if you are unable to attend the one you put a deposit down for)
We are so excited to host a sheepskin tanning class on our very own farm! This is a hands on, weekend long class that covers every step of the tanning process.
What is included? All tools are provided! You will receive access to the online tanning class to use as future reference, a handmade fleshing blade. You’ll be provided a sheepskin as well to tan and take home to use for many many many years!
Where can I stay? We are located just a few miles up the road from Hueston Woods State Park where they have cabins and a lodge with food and a rooms. https://www.huestonwoodslodge.com/lodging/lodge-rooms.
There is also a great bed and breakfast nearby. https://www.whitegardeninn.com/
We are located 3 miles outside of downtown Oxford, and there are also accommodations there! https://www.enjoyoxford.org/stay/
What Airport should I fly into? We are the same distance from DAY (Dayton) or CVG (Cincinnati) ***just fyi, the Cincinnati is in Ohio, but the airport is located in northern Kentucky. I don’t know what it is like that, but it is. You’ll want CVG but just know when you land you are in Kentucky. I like Dayton because it a smaller airport and the drive is a nice rural drive to our farm. Cincinnati is fine too, I just like Dayton better. If logistics are an issue for you, PLEASE reach out to me via Instagram or info@aurorabluefarm.com. I will help figure out a way to get you here from the airport, if that is the issue.
What about meals? We will provide lunch and beverages for Saturday and Sunday. Lunch will be made from local farm meats. (think stews, chili, cornbread, tacos!)
Schedule- Saturday morning will begin at 10:00 am. and go until 4:00 We will go over what a properly salted hide looks like, and how to obtain hides from butchers and other farmers. We will flesh hides, wash them, brain or egg tan them. Sunday, class begins at 11:00 am and will end around 4:00. Possibly earlier. We will soften and stretch the hides, brush the wool, and smoke to “set” the tan. You will get to leave with a hand tanned sheepskin!
This is going to be a very memorable experience and I want to make sure each of you have the BEST time while you are guests at our home. We are excited to have you!
